playingsoldiers: (Conversation [Merlin])
When the knock comes at Gaius' chambers, it's uncertain, almost shy. With one thing and another, Gwaine had been unable to get a decent look at Merlin, or even truly speak to him, since they'd parted ways at Odin's castle. Now back in the relative safety of Camelot's walls, the knight had gone straight to his chambers, exhausted from their travels.

Only, he hadn't been able to sleep. Everytime he closed his eyes, he saw that same pale face, bloody bruise colouring one temple. He knew that Merlin, and Gaius too, would most likely be sleeping at this hour, but he just couldn't stay in bed without making sure his friend truly was recovering. Hence the quiet knocking at the physician's door, despite the late hour.

Gwaine is nervous. There's something about the castle that's been unsettling, recently, first with the chandelier over the Round Table, and then the axe that had taken a chunk out of Sir Percival's arm. Arthur seems to think them coincidences, but that doesn't change the fact that everyone is watching their backs as they walk around.

He's walking to the hall for council when he pauses, listening intently to the silence. He could have sworn...

Yes, there. Yelling, the sounds of a fight, distant but definite. Changing course, Gwaine breaks into a run, wanting to find out what was going on.
